Fiber Gypsum

Fiber gypsum, also known as gypsum fiberboard or gypsum panel, is a type of construction material made from a mixture of gypsum, water, and cellulose fibers. These fibers are typically sourced from recycled paper or wood pulp. The combination of gypsum and fibers creates a strong yet lightweight material that is commonly used in interior construction applications. Fiber gypsum showcases unique characteristics in its crystalline structure and crystallizes in the monoclinic system, assembling prismatic or bladed crystals with a distinct rhombic form. Additionally, it exhibits arrowhead-shaped twins with beveled edges.

Fiber gypsum boards offer several advantages over traditional gypsum boards or drywall. They are more resistant to impact and water damage, making them suitable for use in areas prone to moisture such as bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, fiber gypsum boards have good acoustic insulation properties, helping to reduce noise transmission between rooms.

Alabaster Gypsum

Alabaster gypsum is a type of gypsum characterized by its translucent or opaque white color and soft, smooth texture. It is primarily composed of hydrated calcium sulfate, with trace amounts of other minerals giving it its distinctive appearance. Alabaster gypsum has been used for centuries in sculpture, architectural ornamentation, and decorative objects due to its attractive appearance and ease of carving.

Unlike fiber gypsum, which is typically used in construction applications, alabaster gypsum is valued for its aesthetic qualities and artistic versatility. Its ability to be carved into intricate designs and its ability to transmit light when thinly sliced make it a popular choice for creating decorative pieces such as lamps, vases, and figurines.

Alabaster gypsum is often sourced from quarries where it is found in layers within sedimentary rock formations. Once extracted, it can be shaped and polished to enhance its natural beauty, revealing unique patterns and colors within the stone.
