This mandatory orientation course exceeded my expectations—it gave me a complete roadmap of the EDTC ecosystem, clarified how the 44-course catalog aligns with EU professional standards, and helped me confidently select the right credential pathway for my career.
Overview
Orientation to the EDTC Ecosystem (Foundation) is a mandatory, free entry-level course that introduces professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and stakeholders to the EDTC curriculum framework, ecosystem structure, and pathway options for developing digital trade competence.
The course explains how the EDTC program is organized, what the 12-pillar curriculum represents, how learning progresses through Foundation, Applied, and Advanced tiers, and how learners can identify the credential pathway most relevant to their organizational role and career objectives.
Learners explore the foundational concepts connecting digital trade, logistics, customs, finance, technology, data, cybersecurity, and sustainability. The course introduces key European regulatory frameworks (UCC, eFTI, eIDAS 2.0, NIS2, GDPR) and educational standards (EQAVET, DigComp 3.0, EQF, ESG 2015) that shape the EDTC curriculum architecture.
The course is designed for beginners and does not require previous knowledge of international trade, logistics, technology, European regulation, or the EDTC program. It is the mandatory prerequisite for all learners entering specialist courses within the EDTC ecosystem.
Practical examples focus on Portugal’s logistics infrastructure, including the Port of Sines, Port of Aveiro, Port of Leixões, and the ACE Portal, as well as broader EU and international trade contexts relevant to SMEs, exporters, importers, freight forwarders, carriers, and technology providers.
Upon completion, learners receive an EDTC Ecosystem Onboarding Badge and a Pathway Readiness Certificate confirming their understanding of the EDTC structure and eligibility to proceed to specialized courses aligned with their professional or organizational focus.
This is an educational orientation and onboarding course. Completion does not constitute professional certification, legal compliance, customs expertise, or regulatory competence and does not by itself qualify learners for specialist roles or make an organization compliant with any law or standard.
